  1. Friday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 51,176.96 on Friday, up 250.40 points, or 0.49 percent. Softer-than-expected September jobs data cooled bets on a near-term Federal Reserve rate hike and helped lift U.S. stocks to end the week.

Nonfarm payrolls rose by 29,000 last month, well below economists' estimates near 90,000, with prior months revised lower. Despite Friday's advance, the Dow finished the week lower.

  2. Thursday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 50,926.56 on Thursday, up 20.51 points, or 0.04 percent, after recovering from early losses. A pullback in Treasury yields from multi-decade highs and a bounce in chip stocks helped the major averages finish slightly higher to open October and the fourth quarter.

Manufacturing data and oil prices near $100 a barrel weighed on the morning session, while Micron’s strong results and AI-related chip strength supported the afternoon rebound. Investors now turn to Friday’s monthly jobs report for the next read on the labor market and Fed policy path.

  3. Wednesday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 50,906.05 on Wednesday, down 443.87 points, or 0.9%. Stocks gave back an early advance after reports pointed to a stronger spring economy than first estimated, which helped keep Treasury yields elevated and pressure on equities. The S&P 500 also finished lower, while the Nasdaq eked out a small gain.

  4. Tuesday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 51,349.92 on Tuesday, down 131.59 points, or 0.26%. Stocks slipped as long-dated Treasury yields kept climbing — the 30-year yield touched about 5.62%, its highest level since 2002 — while investors also weighed softer consumer confidence and job-openings data. The index finished off its session lows after a day of mixed trading across the major averages.
